FAQs

If you are interested in starting therapy, the first step is to send me an email at tina@newinsightstherapy.com to arrange an initial consultation.

Where do I Start?
Are Sessions Confidential?

Sessions are confidential. The only exceptions are where there is a risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or if required by law.

Sessions last for 50 minutes. EMDR sessions are up to 90 minutes long.

How Long Is A Session?
Where Do Sessions Take Place?

Sessions can take place face to face, via Zoom or telephone, or a mixture of all 3. In person sessions, take place in Dartford, Kent.

Should you decide to book a session, we will agree on a suitable date and time. I will then send you an email confirmation with all the relevant information, including payment details and a client registration form.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

There is a 48-hour cancellation policy. If there is less than 48 hours’ notice, the full fee will be charged.

This will include an introduction to the process, what to expect, and an initial assessment. This involves me asking some questions to get to know you and gain an understanding of your background.

Together, we will begin to identify areas where you may need support.

What Happens In The First Session?
How Often Will We Meet?

Most people find it helpful to begin with weekly sessions, as this provides consistency and helps build momentum in the work.

Some people choose to move to fortnightly sessions or less frequently, depending on what feels right for them.

We can review this together as we go along.

This will depend on what you would like to work on. Some people find that a few sessions are enough to help them through a specific difficulty, while others choose longer-term work to explore things in more depth.

Meaningful change can take time, and we will work at a pace that feels supportive and manageable for you.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?
Do You Offer Couples / Family Therapy?

My practice is focused on one-to-one therapy, so I do not offer family or couples sessions.

For counselling to be effective, it is important that the person seeking support is ready and willing to engage in the process. If you are getting in touch on their behalf, I would encourage them to get in touch directly, so that they can take charge of their own counselling journey.

What Happens If I Am In Crisis?

I am not able to provide an emergency or crisis service. If you ever feel at risk of harming yourself, or you are in crisis and need urgent help, please call 999 or go to your nearest A&E. You can also call your GP, NHS 111, or the Samaritans on 116 123 for immediate support. If you are outside the UK, please use your local emergency number.

Do You Accept Referrals From My Private Medical Cover?
How Do I Prepare For My First Sessions?

You don’t need to prepare anything formal before your first session. It can be helpful to spend a little time reflecting on what has brought you to counselling and what you might hope to gain from it, but there is no pressure to have everything clearly worked out.
